Tim & Gretchen May

Tim May is a world-class guitarist, resophonic guitarist, and mandolinist who started out playing banjo in the family band growing up in Mississippi. He's toured and recorded with artists like Eddie Rabbit, Patty Loveless, and Charlie Daniels. Tim has been a featured artist and writer for Flatpicking Guitar Magazine and has regularly judged the National Flatpicking Guitar Championship in Winfield, Kansas. He is a popular teacher at workshops across the country, and is - with fiddling wife Gretchen Priest-May - a central figure in the group PlaidGrass. Prior to that, he spent nearly 15 years in the critically acclaimed group, Crucial Smith, which had a CD produced by Pat Flynn.

 

Gretchen Priest May divides her time between performing, teaching fiddle and running the Musical Heritage Center of Middle Tennessee (also known as the Fiddle and Pick) that she founded in 2008 in Pegram, Tennessee. Along with her husband Tim May, she formed the band Plaidgrass by merging the traditions of Irish, old-Time and bluegrass music and the instrumentation of fiddle, bouzouki, bodhran, bass and banjo in a variety of configurations.She toured with the bluegrass band Crucial Smith and the Celtic rock band, Ceili Rain. Gretchen is a featured performer on the Grand Ole Opry, Mountain Stage, the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, Kansas, and many festivals across the country.
